Lake Tahoe, California

Lake Tahoe is my favorite place to vacation during winter and summer. It is a popular travel destination for many people and not only people from California vacation there. There's snowboarding and skiing in the winter and water sports in the summer. It's only a couple hours away from Santa Rosa and has affordable lodges and hotels. My sister just moved to Tahoe, I can't wait to visit her and take part in everything Tahoe has to offer this summer. Tahoe is a family tradition for many people in California. Its a place that everyone can find something they enjoy doing. From outdoor activities, camping, swimming, hiking or shopping at the local shops and going to spas.

I remember my family taking our annual camping trip to Tahoe when I was little. Tahoe has so many of my favorite childhood memories that I wish I could visit Tahoe more often. Tahoe connects to my study of humanities in that it has a culture, history and people. Its a place that the visitors have created a majority of the culture. And the great climate and scenary have established a popular travel spot for many people. Tahoe is a large part of California and its culture.

Using your classmates work from last week, tell us one thing you learned from 1 student.

From reading Jeni Lyons blog from last week I learned that this is her 4th consecutive semester at the SRJC. And she has completed a Human Resources Certificate and now I am working towards completing my AA degree. I found that I have the same goals at her and I have also been at the SRJC for 4 semesters. I can’t wait to get my AA degree and transfer soon.

From my classmate Ryan Dunham I learned that he just completed his first year at SRJC and he wants to transfer to a CSU. He wants to be a sociology or criminology major. My major is sociology which I strongly recommend to Ryan because it is a very broad major/subject that will allow you to have many career choices and the sociology classes I have taken are very interesting and straightforward.

Lastly, I learned about my classmate Alyce who is taking this class to fulfill GE requirement for AA degree. She interested in learning more about film and dance in this context. And this is the first time that she has ever created a blog page.

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is the world's most innovative museums of modern and contemporary art; SFMOMA has had an active Web presence for ten years. They offer a virtual museum experience right from your computer. There are many enhancements, visuals and information they offer on their site. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art connects to my studies of humanities because it offers a collection of artwork that involves culture, history, and people who directly correlates to humanities. Artwork and the artwork in museums is great tool to use when studying humanities.

I choose the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art because it is one of my art museums in California that I have visited before. From visiting the museum in person and online it has opened my mind to numerous artists, styles of art, and new technique that artists are using today. Modern art is on of my favorite types of art to view because it’s very clear and simple. Still, there are a lot of original and creative pieces of modern art that I saw at my last visit to the museum.

The SF MOMA features many exhibits and has had many special exhibits or certain holidays or events which is something that I enjoy visiting and exploring those. This is the first museum that I have visited that notifies you when a new exhibit will be displayed for the public. Currently, there is a Frida Kahlo, Elise S. Haas, A Rooftop Garden, Matisse, and picturing modernity exhibits.

I would like to know more about how the museum goes about choosing their exhibits. This assignment has made want to go back to the MONA and see how much it has changed since I was there last. And find more connections to my study of humanities while I am there. I feel that art is very important aspect of everyone’s lives. I think art inspires artists to make more art and those who are not artists to be more creative in their desired skill. Art makes you wonder why the artist used that color or texture and open your mind to new ideas and ways of creating an original piece of art work.

2a Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park, one of the first wilderness parks in the United States, is best known for its waterfalls, but within it’s nearly 1,200 square miles; there are deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and a lot more.

Yosemite National Park is located in the central Sierra Nevada of California and lies 150 miles east of San Francisco and only a six-hour drive from Los Angeles. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, Yosemite is internationally recognized for its spectacular granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, giant sequoia groves, and biological diversity. The 750,000-acre, 1,200 square-mile park contains thousands of lakes and ponds, 1600 miles of streams, 800 miles of hiking trails, and 350 miles of roads. Two federally designated wild and scenic rivers, the Merced and Tuolumne, begin within Yosemite’s borders and flow west into California's Central Valley. Annual park visitation exceeds 3.5 million, with most visitor use concentrated in the seven square mile area of Yosemite Valley.

Indian people have lived in the Yosemite region for as long as 8,000 years. By the mid-nineteenth century, when native residents had their first contact with non-Indian people, they were primarily of Southern Miwok ancestry. However, trade with the Mono Paiutes from the east side of the Sierra for pinyon pine nuts, obsidian, and other materials from the Mono Basin resulted in many unions between the two tribes.The native people of Yosemite developed a complex culture rich in tradition, religion, songs, and political affiliations. They used a variety of local ecosystems, they used plant and animal resources to the best of their abilities. The history and culture that yosemite national park has directly relates to my studies in humanities. From their traditions, spirituality, and discoveries, I believe that there is a strong connection between any place with a history and developed culture that can relate to the study of humanities.
